$4000 of Free Training for Existing Workers

The objective of the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Program is to develop a more skilled Australian workforce that delivers long-term benefits for Australians. This is achieved by encouraging employers to open up genuine opportunities for skills-based training of their employees through provision by the Commonwealth of financial incentives to employers.

Who is eligible?

  • Candidates must be full time or part time employees (not casual).
  • Candidates cannot have another prior qualification on Certificate III or above (if qualification was seven years or more ago from TAFE or apprenticeship/traineeship the employee is eligible).
  • Candidates must not have a tertiary qualification.
  • Candidates must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Directors and business owners are not eligible for funding.

Productivity Places Program

Under the Skilling Australia for the Future initiative, the Commonwealth has
funded the Productivity Places Program, which will deliver 711,000 training
places over five years in areas of skills shortage to ensure that Australian
workers develop the skills they need. These training places are being
delivered in an industry-driven system, ensuring that training is more
responsive to the needs of businesses and participants.

What is the Productivity Places Program?
  • The program is a great way to improve your skills so you can find employment.
  • It can help you gain a nationally recognised qualification or upgrade an existing qualification.
  • Training will be delivered in your local area.
  • The program will provide new training places in skills employers want and is designed to help you secure employment.
  • The program is part of the Australian Government's Skilling Australia for the Future initiative.

How do I apply?

If you are registered with an employment service provider, such as a Job Network member or Disability Employment Network, you need to contact your employment consultant to discuss your interest and obtain a referral to MCO (an ESP Referral Form is to be completed and returned). You also need to complete a Confirmation of Enrolment Form. If you are not registered with an employment service provider, you need to apply directly to MCO, on 1300 552 435.

The Australian federal government offers funding to cover the training costs for certain eligible candidates. These candidates include job seekers and existing employees. As a registered training organisation (RTO), MCO is able to provide these courses for candidates.

The courses have been designed:

  • To conduct onsite training in the workplace
  • To ensure immediate benefits to the workplace are realised as outcomes are achieved
  • For tailored workplace assessments
  • To be completed within 12 months

Who is eligible?

You are eligible to apply for this free training if you:

  • Have been retrenched as of February 24, 2009
  • Are aged 15 years or over and
  • Are registered with an employment service provider (ESP)
In addition, applicants must be:
  • An Australian citizen or
  • A permanent resident of Australia or
  • A humanitarian refugee

New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS)

The New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS) can assist you in establishing your own new small business NEIS provides training in small business management, business skills and business plan development, if you are approved you will receive:

  • Allowance (if eligible) for up to 52 weeks
  • NEIS Rental Assistance for up to 26 weeks (if eligible)
  • Business guidance, advice and mentoring support during the first year of operation

NEIS will also assist you in developing a business plan as part of your training. This plan will then need to be approved before you can start your small business with the assistance of NEIS.

The aim of the business plan is to assist you in gaining finance from banks and credit unions if necessary.

The NEIS program does not provide start-up funds such as grants or loans.
